Food Shopping Experience - Foodland

Now...some people (Rachel) have already taken the mick out of my photo taking and blog posting. Well...I don't care. I know there are some geeky people out there (Helen) who will enjoy finding out about food shopping a la Bangkok and some supportive friends (Katie, Kate and mostly the rest of you) who will read this and pretend I'm not a loser. :P

I miss UK supermarkets and farm shops! Oh to pop to Bell's farm shop and buy some potatoes that grew a few metres away from where I'm standing. Or to pick my own strawberries! Or to buy some ROOT VEGETABLES. These things aren't impossible here, but they are more difficult.

Having said that, I love food shopping (as you all know) and I am enjoying finding which are the best places to go. So, I'm going to document my exciting adventures around Bangkok's leading supermarkets. Until I go and visit some more interesting places and will then blog about them!

Supermarket Number One: Foodland!

Rach and I spend 30 hot and sweaty minutes wandering around and around Sala Daeng BTS station looking for this place. The map was clearly wrong. Although we did get to practice some Thai - and were understood!

My short walk to the boat
The boat - best way to travel!
Then the skytrain - another pretty good way to travel!
Off just a few stops away at Sala Daeng
Hurrah! After 30 mins of wandering we find the promised (food) land
Many a snack
But a small selection of fruit and veg
So all in all a disappointing trip! Was it worth traipsing around for? No. Give me TOPS and Villa anyday! To make us feel better we accidentally fell into Coyotes.

Where they have 75 different types of Margarita and it happened
to be buy one get one free...go on then
We were also forced to have enchiladas with extra guacamole and sour cream
Verdict: Not a great selection, not really worth the trip. However, Coyotes saved the day!

  1. The snack section looks interesting. Much better than ROOT VEGETABLES!

  2. My plan is that Dave and I are off on an AWAY DAY Friday 14th.

Starting at Droitwich - then into Worcester, down to Upton and across to Hereford. From there its up to Leominster and back to Droitwich via Bridgenorth.

Mum should be back home sometime Friday so see her when I return.

  3. Be careful. The news and web pages are talking about serious flooding either in Bangkok or expected soon.

I expect you and Kate to be sensible.
