A Photo A Day - February 14th 2013

Ok, I have a confession - today I didn't take a photo of the day...I know, I know. I felt too poorly and the photo would have been of bottles of water, cartons of juice or the plane home. Instead, I've posted a picture of some of the pretty fabric I bought in Chinatown yesterday.

I liked both but only bought the white and blue version. Wishing I'd
bought both now! Will have to keep my eye out in BKK Chinatown!

Bells at Wat Doi Suthep on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. The temple is on
a big hill that over looks the city. It was pretty, but a shame the weather was
too misty to get a good view from the top of the hill.

A Photo A Day - February 6th 2013

Finally finished, printed and sent. Phew! Let's
hope it's a pass!

Alongside this...I must say thank you to all those people who helped, proof read, listened to me moan (there was a lot of that), told me to get on with work instead of procrastinating, gave advice and were so supportive! And who helped me celebrate :D I have lovely lovely friends and family and I am a very lucky girl - I know!

Happy Chinese New Year! Today we celebrated Chinese New Year with an assembly and a fete. There were noodles, Chinese games, Chinese foods, a Tai Chi demonstration, Chinese writing demonstrations and the dragon dance. Great fun!

Plans for Chiang Mai

After spending lots of time (including part of my summer holiday and October half term) writing my dissertation, I was determined not to miss out on another trip when I only have a few months left in Thailand.

So many people have told me about how beautiful Chiang Mai is and I know I'm really going to like it and so February half term's destination is Thailand's northern capital. I'm going with Rach, and Pippa and her parents will be staying there at the same time so it'll be lovely to have company.

My plans for the week include...a silversmith course, a Thai chair massage course (don't have enough time for a full course but this looks good and usable), some photography of the beautiful Wats and scenery, a trip to see Wat Doi Suthep (views look stunning), some knitting, some reading, some lovely food (Khao Soi Gai), some walking, some swimming, mooching around art galleries, shopping at the Night Bazaar, sitting in cafes and maybe some spa time.

I'm very excited!

A Photo A Day - February 1st 2013

This evening I went to the cinema to see Les Mis with Josie. We had both mentioned we wanted to go to he Scala cinema in Siam Square as it is the oldest (and first) cinema in Bangkok.

We went for dinner first in Siam Discovery at a little Italian called Moulin.

Bruchetta

A Cosmo and a Melon Surprise

After dinner we went for a mooch around Siam Square. It's been ages since I've been there properly. They have lots of little clothes shops and a couple of quirky vintage-esqe shops too. We found a pretty awesome wool shop and will hopefully be going back there for some wool once I've got time to knit again!

Pretty wools

When we arrived at the Scala, it had a fab old school cinema sign outside. There is only one screen there and it shows one or two different films a day. The lobby is quite open and has a huge chandelier to welcome you, but I think my favourite part of it was the ceiling and arches. So unusual and beautiful. The cinema was comfy, big and not too crowded for our 8.30pm showing. Les Mis was good, the music was great.

Will definitely be going to the Scala again. At a bargain 100B (£2!) how could I not?!
